The Cost of Yes: How to build a successful life without sacrificing your health, energy and future.
There has been a lot happening in my business this week.
I launched my new Health Audit, my introductory offer comes to an end today, and I've made some big decisions behind the scenes.
But that's not actually what I want to talk about.
I want to talk about something much more important.
As women, we're often taught that success comes from doing more.
Work longer.
Sleep less.
Say yes to every opportunity.
Keep pushing.
Keep proving yourself.
The problem is, our bodies don't reward us for constantly living in survival mode.
As a Cancer Prevention Practitioner, I spend every day helping women with cancer prevention for women by teaching them how to reduce cancer risk naturally through nutrition, lifestyle, hormone health, stress management and understanding the connection between toxins and women's health.
Yet this week, I realised I wasn't fully living what I teach.
That was my wake up call.
Success Means Nothing If Your Body Pays the Price
It's incredibly easy to justify stress when you're building something you love.
You tell yourself:
"It's only for a few weeks."
"I'll rest after this launch."
"I'll get back into my routine once things calm down."
The truth is, they rarely do.
Weeks become months.
Months become years.
Life doesn't suddenly slow down.
Your nervous system simply gets used to functioning under pressure.
Over the last few months I've been trying to grow two brand new businesses at the same time.
I was constantly thinking.
Constantly creating.
Constantly switching between two completely different businesses.
At first I didn't realise how much pressure I was under.
Then my body started speaking.
I developed pains I'd never experienced before.
My periods became painful, which is completely unlike me.
I felt more emotional than usual.
Those weren't random symptoms.
They were signals.
Looking back now, I can see that my body had been asking me to slow down for a while. I just hadn't been listening.
Your Body Doesn't Care Why You're Stressed
One of the biggest myths around stress is believing that only "bad" stress affects your health.
The body doesn't distinguish between:
Launching a business.
Financial pressure.
A toxic relationship.
Looking after everyone else.
Or working every hour because you're passionate about what you do.
Stress is stress.
When stress becomes constant, the body moves away from repair and focuses on survival.
Sleep changes.
Hormones change.
Your immune system becomes less efficient.
Inflammation increases.
This is exactly why I talk about stress so much inside my work.
Many women don't realise there is a strong relationship between hormone imbalance and cancer risk. Chronic stress can disrupt hormone balance, increase inflammation and reduce the body's ability to repair itself over time.
If you've ever wondered how to lower inflammation naturally, reducing chronic stress is one of the most powerful places to start. Good nutrition, quality sleep, movement and creating space for recovery all work together to support a healthier internal environment.
This isn't about being perfect.
It's about recognising when your body is asking for something different.
As someone who teaches women how to reduce cancer risk naturally, I couldn't ignore what my own body was trying to tell me.
There isn't an amount of money in the world that would make me choose a life where my health slowly declined.
Because I know the long term implications.
Success Should Support Your Life
This week I realised something.
My business should fit around the life I want.
Not the other way around.
I've always believed that prevention isn't built through one big decision.
It's built through the small decisions we make every single day.
This week, I had to make one myself.
Not because I was failing.
Not because I couldn't cope.
Because I refuse to sacrifice my future health for short term success.
Health will always come before money.
Every single time.
The Cost of Yes
I want to leave you with an exercise that completely changed the way I think.
Take out a notebook and draw a line down the middle of the page.
On the left hand side write:
Everything I'm saying yes to.
Write everything.
Your workload.
Your family responsibilities.
Being available all the time.
Replying to messages late at night.
Working weekends.
Scrolling on your phone.
People pleasing.
Doing things that other people could actually do themselves.
I used to have a family member who always asked me to order things online because they weren't confident with technology.
I always said yes.
Then one day I stopped.
Funny enough, those jobs still got done.
Sometimes we carry responsibilities that don't actually belong to us.
Once you've finished your list, move to the right hand side and write one question.
What is each yes costing me?
Not financially.
Emotionally.
Mentally.
Physically.
Maybe it's costing you your sleep.
Your peace.
Your confidence.
Your creativity.
Time outside.
Quality time with your children.
Your energy.
Or simply your happiness.
For me, constantly saying yes to everything left me feeling overwhelmed.
There was always another task.
Another idea.
Another deadline.
I reached the point where I couldn't even keep up with my own thoughts because I was constantly thinking about what came next.
When I completed this exercise myself, I realised I'd said yes to so many amazing opportunities.
Two amazing businesses, Cloco Health and Cloco
Exciting projects.
New ideas.
None of them were bad.
But together they were costing me something I wasn't willing to lose.
My health.
Every Yes Is Also a No
Every time we say yes to more work, we might be saying no to rest.
Every time we say yes to everyone else, we might be saying no to ourselves.
Every time we say yes to constant busyness, we might be saying no to the daily habits that protect our long term health.
Look back at your list and circle the one yes that's costing you the most.
Just one.
Then write this sentence underneath it:
This is the yes I'm choosing to let go of, so I can say yes to the life I actually want.
You don't need to change everything overnight.
You only need one decision.
One decision can change everything.
Health Is the Foundation of Everything
The woman you're becoming isn't the woman who burns herself out building a successful life.
She's the woman who protects her energy.
Protects her body.
Protects her future.
She understands that health isn't something to think about once everything else is finished.
Health is the foundation that allows everything else to exist.
When we ignore our bodies, we often ignore the very things that support long term wellbeing, from stress management and hormone balance to nutrition and reducing exposure to everyday toxins.
That's why conversations around toxins and women's health, stress and lifestyle matter so much.
Prevention isn't about fear.
It's about giving your body the best possible environment to thrive.
If your business grows but your health declines, you've paid too high a price.
Choose a version of success that you'll still be grateful for in ten years.

You only get one body.
