If You Want To Reduce Your Risk Of Cancer, Stop Buying Fast Fashion
For years us women have been told health is just about calories, weight loss, going to the gym, drinking and smoking.
But health is about what we are exposed to every single day. This includes:
What we wear.
What we spray onto our skin.
What we clean with.
What we breathe in.
All of this affects the body over time.
Modern life is becoming more toxic than ever before, and whilst we will never completely avoid toxins, we can reduce the overall load the body is carrying.
That matters more than most women realise.
Recently, SHEIN was accused of selling products containing toxic chemicals at thousands above legal limits. But this conversation goes far beyond one company. Fast fashion brands across the industry have repeatedly been linked with harmful chemicals in clothing and manufacturing processes.
This is exactly why conversations around environmental toxins and women’s health are becoming impossible to ignore.
Because the body responds to its environment.
Why This Matters To Me Personally
Cancer has shaped my entire life.
I’ve had five family members with cancer.
Growing up around that changes the way you see health forever.
For years I thought cancer was just genetics and bad luck. I thought there was nothing we could really do to influence it.
Until my nan was diagnosed again.
This time, instead of focusing on treatment, she started looking at her nutrition, stress, environment, and toxic exposure. She changed the way she was living day to day.
And her body responded.
Her cancer started to shrink.
That moment changed everything for me because it made me realise something most people are never taught:
Health is cumulative.
The body responds to what it is repeatedly exposed to.
At the same time, my own health started struggling. I lost my periods from stress and under eating. Like many women, I was dismissed by my doctor and told it was “normal”.
That experience led me into years of studying environmental medicine, hormones, toxic load, and how our lifestyle affects the body on a cellular level.
Because symptoms are not random.
The body is always communicating.
Fast Fashion And Women’s Health
Most women never stop to think about what is actually sitting against their skin all day.
But your skin is your largest organ.
What touches it matters.
A lot of fast fashion clothing contains chemicals linked to inflammation, hormone disruption, and increased toxic load.
These can include:
Formaldehyde
Heavy metals like lead and mercury
PFAS chemicals
Synthetic dyes
Flame retardants
These chemicals are often used to:
Keep clothes wrinkle free
Brighten colours
Make fabrics waterproof
Extend shelf life
But nobody is asking what happens when women wear these chemicals against their skin every single day for years.
Especially when women are already overloaded.
Overloaded with:
Stress
Chronic inflammation
Hormonal disruption
Processed food
Poor sleep
Constant stimulation
This is one of the biggest reasons conversations around hormone imbalance and cancer risk matter so much right now.
Because the female body is struggling.
And women are being told it is normal.
Common Does Not Mean Normal
Women today are experiencing:
PMS
Painful periods
Fatigue
Anxiety
Fertility issues
Weight gain
Breast issues
Chronic inflammation
And most women have been taught to normalise it.
But symptoms are communication.
The body does not randomly malfunction.
What I see more and more through testing women is heavy metal toxicity. Lead and mercury are showing up far more than people realise.
And heavy metals do not just sit harmlessly inside the body.
They can affect:
Hormones
Mood
Detox pathways
Nervous system regulation
Energy production
Brain function
Sometimes toxic overload can look like:
Anxiety
Brain fog
Mood swings
Irritability
Feeling emotionally disconnected
Feeling unlike yourself
This is not always “just stress”.
Sometimes the body is overloaded.
There is a reason the phrase “mad as a hatter” exists. Hat makers were historically exposed to mercury vapour during manufacturing and many developed emotional and neurological symptoms over time.
The body and brain are not separate.
What affects the cells affects the mind.
Toxic Load And Cancer Risk
I want to make something very clear.
I am not saying one pair of leggings causes cancer.
Cancer is complex.
But health is cumulative.
The body keeps score.
Every single exposure either supports the body or adds stress to it.
Cancer develops over years and often decades. It is usually not one single thing. It is the accumulation of:
Chronic stress
Inflammation
Hormonal imbalance
Toxic exposure
Poor sleep
Poor nutrition
Nervous system dysregulation
This is why cancer prevention for women needs to become a much bigger conversation.
Because women deserve to understand what influences long term health before diagnosis ever happens.
How To Lower Inflammation Naturally
One of the most important things women can do is reduce the overall burden on the body.
Through small consistent choices.
If you want to reduce cancer risk naturally, start with the things your body interacts with every single day.
Your clothes.
Your food.
Your home.
Your skincare.
Your stress levels.
Your sleep.
Start simple.
Choose organic fabrics, organic cotton where possible and non-toxic clothing brands.
Wash new clothes before wearing them.
Reduce how often synthetic fast fashion sits against your skin daily.
Support detoxification properly.
Your body needs:
Protein
Minerals
Fibre
Antioxidants
A functioning liver
A healthy gut
Proper sleep
Nervous system regulation
You cannot out supplement chronic stress and toxic overload.
This is also why learning how to lower inflammation naturally matters so much.
Because chronic inflammation creates an internal environment where the body struggles to repair, regulate, and protect itself properly.
Women’s Bodies Are Communicating
Hormonal issues are exploding right now, and cancer rates in young women are rising.
Infertility is increasing.
Autoimmune conditions are increasing.
Chronic illness is increasing.
And instead of asking why, society is normalising it.
Women are constantly told:
“It’s just hormones.”
No.
Women’s bodies are communicating distress.
Modern life is pushing the female body beyond what it was designed to cope with:
Constant stimulation
Constant stress
Constant chemicals
Constant pressure
No rest
No regulation
No safety
Then women blame themselves when symptoms appear.
Prevention Starts Before Diagnosis
What I want women to understand is this:
You have more influence over your health than you think.
Huge influence.
And that is incredible.
Because prevention is not one huge perfect decision.
It is small daily choices repeated consistently over years.
That is how long term health is built.
Not from fear.
From awareness.
From understanding your body.
From supporting your body instead of constantly fighting against it.
This is the future of women’s health.
Women are waking up.
Women are starting to question things.
Women are realising they do not want to wait until diagnosis to start caring about their health.
And I am so excited for us.
Because prevention starts long before illness appears.
Health is not built overnight.
But neither is disease.
The body responds to what we repeatedly do.
What we repeatedly eat.
What we repeatedly tolerate.
What we repeatedly expose ourselves to.
And every single day is an opportunity to either support your future health or work against it.
Not through perfection.
Through awareness.
Through intention.
Through understanding that prevention starts long before diagnosis.
Want To Understand What Your Body Actually Needs?
Most women are trying to reduce toxins without knowing whether their body can actually process and remove them properly.
Because detoxification is not just about removing exposure.
The body needs enough minerals, nutrients and support to clear toxins effectively.
This is why I use advanced mineral and toxicity testing with clients.
So we can understand:
how stress is affecting the body
where mineral deficiencies may be impacting detox pathways
whether heavy metals or toxic load are present
and what your body actually needs for long term support
Because guessing creates overwhelm.
Testing creates clarity.
